Reprasentation Para/Site Art Space Nov 29-Jan 17

When Joseph Kosuth, a founder of the conceptual art movement in the 1960s, expressed interest in exhibiting at Para/Site Art Space, its executive director and curator Alvaro Rodriguez Fominaya had more than just a solo show in mind.

'I'm very interested in the interaction between East and West so when we bring in international artists, there has to be some sort of impact,' says Fominaya.

'For this specific project, it wasn't meaningful just showing Kosuth. I wanted to [connect] him to a Hong Kong artist to develop a new work and create new possibilities.'

Tsang Kin-wah, a local conceptual artist known for his beautiful floral prints laced with written profanity, makes this connection. He will be creating a new installation using Kosuth's past works.

Fominaya says Kosuth selected works on paper from his studio in Rome, where he is based. 'His work is about culture, philosophy and books,' he says. 'It explores the idea of what meaning is and what meaning is related to art and culture,'
