Nintendo 'super-sizes' its popular handheld gaming system with the release of the DSi LL - called DSi XL in Europe. This new device features a longer-lasting battery and a larger screen.

Released just in time for the holiday season, the new console came out in Japan on November 21 to popular acclaim. According to Japanese video gaming magazine Enterbrain, Nintendo sold 103,524 units in the first two days.

The DSi LL has a 4.2-inch screen - about an inch bigger than the DSi's 3.25 inches and the DS Lite's 3 inches.

The downside is pixel resolution has not been increased from the smaller version's resolution of 256x192 pixels per screen.

Specifications for the battery are 13-17 hours of run time on the lowest brightness setting, compared to 9-14 on the DSi.

On the highest brightness, the DSi LL should last about four to five hours, roughly an hour longer than the DSi.
