HK world champion Ng has no regrets about absence from Games
Newly crowned world champion Ng On-yee has no regrets about missing the East Asian Games when snooker makes its debut in the Hong Kong showpiece next week.
Cue sports are in the Games for the first time - having been introduced by local organisers to enhance Hong Kong's medal hopes - but Ng was not included because she did not undergo squad training.
'There are no regrets because Hong Kong is still represented by two good players,' said the 19-year-old on her triumphant return from India yesterday. 'I will definitely go to support my teammates during the Games and hope they can win medals for Hong Kong.
'Winning the world title has boosted my confidence in the sport and hopefully I can win more for Hong Kong in future.'
Ng said personal reasons prevented her from joining the Hong Kong squad 's Games training camp.
She won the women's amateur world championship in Hyderabad, India, this week at her third attempt.
'I suffered some ups and downs in the preliminaries, but was lucky to go through and was more consistent in the knock-out stage. I never expected to win the title and, therefore, I was able to play under no pressure. Perhaps that's why I could make it until the end as the youngest player in the tournament,' she said.
