Students and the public had a chance to find out what lawmakers do on the Legislative Council's open day on Saturday. More than 2,400 students and members of the public visited the Legco building during the open session, which was expected to be the second last open day for the 97-year-old historic building. A new complex to house Legco and its library and offices is to be built on the Tamar site in Admiralty. The project is scheduled for completion in two years and preparations for the move are already underway. Speaker Jasper Tsang Yok-sing said if everything went according to plan, next year's open day would be the last to be held in the building. Legco has been organising open days for 12 years. Last Saturday, 21 legislators received the visitors from schools and the community. They introduced them to the facilities and showed how they carried out duties on a normal day. Visitors toured the building's facilities. Interactive computer games and exhibitions gave them an in depth look at what the council does on a day-to-day basis.
