Police raids on a triad gang have netted 21 suspects, including a faction leader of the Wo Hop To triad, police said. 'Investigations showed that the gang was involved in drug trafficking, extortion, recruiting youths into a triad society and a number of burglaries,' senior superintendent Yu Tat-chung, of the Hong Kong Island crime unit, said. An undercover policeman recruited into the triad society gathered information over the past six months. The arrests began on Monday night. 'Our undercover agent infiltrated the triad faction to identify its core figures and collect evidence on their illegal activities,' Yu said. Investigations showed that the gang was active in Causeway Bay, Wan Chai, Aberdeen and Western. 'The gangsters sold ketamine and cannabis to youths in games centres and entertainment venues,' a police officer said. 'Intelligence also shows that they recruited young people such as students and school dropouts,' the officer said. The faction leader, who is in his 30s, was nabbed by officers in Causeway Bay early yesterday.
