World can have growth and emissions cuts
I couldn't agree more with Gwynne Dyer , whose column criticised the stalemate in the US Senate with regard to climate matters ('Postpone climate deal until US, China ready', November 18).
Year after year, countries have been concerned with global warming. Every person, in every country, should be responsible for tackling global warming.
Many people think that developed countries should bear the responsibility of global warming because of their unsustainable economic activities in the past.
On the other hand, some people think that these responsibilities should be shared by developing nations.
Today, the US and China are the world's two largest greenhouse-gas emitters. China is the representative of those rapidly developing countries while the US represents developed nations.
It is undeniable that the US should be responsible for its carbon-dioxide emissions. Since developing nations such as China, India and Brazil are not willing to remain behind developed nations economically, they will continue to increase the size of their economies even after agreeing to cap their emissions. This means they will require more energy than before.
