Testosterone levels surging on the Durex Industrial Average
Durex, the condom maker, sounds a lot like Dow Jones in Cantonese. This was recently brought home by viewers who complained that popular TVB news anchor Chan Yat-kiu (pictured) took to calling the world's most popular index the 'Durex Industrial Average'. Perhaps it was some kind of subconscious association on her part. Actually, there are many similarities between the two companies, translated or not. Stocks go up, stocks go down. And they often go down when you most want them to go up. Also, traders have been known to refrain from sex during weekdays, supposedly to build up their testosterone levels to enhance their killer instinct and aggression. Perhaps Durex can bank on Chan's on-air faux pas to make a new ad with the tagline: our bubbles don't burst.
