Champion Hong Kong hoop Douglas Whyte will hope to build on a strong performance at Hanshin Racecourse in Japan yesterday as he prepares to repel the host of international jockeys arriving for the Cathay Pacific International Jockeys' Championship at Happy Valley on Wednesday. Despite winning the final leg of the World Super Jockey Series, Whyte (38 points) could not peg back the lead of Japanese rider Norihiro Yokoyama (47) and again finished second in the event. Whyte finished second in the series last year behind Ioritz Mendizabal of France. Whyte won two races in Japan yesterday, but his victory on Win Premium was not one of the four legs in the series. Three riders who will be competing at Happy Valley - Ryan Moore of Britain, Frenchman Christophe Lemaire and Japan's Yasunari Iwata, finished third, seventh and 10th respectively.
