A DOMESTIC helper operated a gambling establishment at a flat in Stubbs Road when her employer was away in Europe, Eastern Court heard yesterday. Marciana Biason, 42, pleaded guilty to operating a gambling establishment and, as the person in charge, allowing a premises to be used as a gambling establishment on Sunday. Magistrate Fergal Sweeney fined Biason $7,000. Fourteen Filipinos - five men and nine women - were each fined $500 after they admitted gambling. Another Filipina, Leonila Briones, 43, who also faces a gambling charge, was allegedly in breach of her conditions of stay. Mr Sweeney remanded her in police custody until Friday for further inquiries. No plea was taken on the gambling charge.
