World War II bombs found
A POLICE bomb disposal officer and two assistants removed 16 unexploded wartime bombs from a construction site in Wong Tai Sin last night.
The bombs were believed to have been dropped by Japanese aircraft while attacking Kai Tak airport.
It is believed to be the biggest single haul of bombs found in Hong Kong.
The bombs had no pins but explosives were found intact and were liable to explode if hammered.
The bombs were loaded onto a lorry and taken to the Government Dockyard for dumping at sea.
They were found at 4 pm by workers digging a trench at the junction of Hammerhill Road and Lung Cheung Road.
People close to the site in the nearby Ngau Chi Wan squatter area were evacuated.
A 50-kilogram wartime device was found in Mongkok on Sunday.
