Zhang ensures Macau's golden first

Macau's Zhang Shaoling shocked the established order in the women's 69kg weightlifting event when she beat Beijing Olympic gold medallist and world record-holder Liu Chunhong to claim gold at the Lai Chi Kok Park Sports Centre. Zhang's combined lift of 243kg was Macau's fourth gold medal at the Games in any sport. Zhang's win was not a total surprise; she showed promising form by winning bronze at last month's World Championships in Goyang, South Korea. Liu took silver with a combined total of 231kg, while Taiwan's Lu Ying-chi was third on 200kg. China made amends in the men's 94kg category with Jiang Hairong taking gold ahead of South Korea's Kim Min-jae.
