With the mainland's economy booming, these days men seem to find it easier to earn money than get a girlfriend.

In their search for true love, two single and rich young men have tried a different approach. The pair have employed a match-making agency to help recruit girlfriends at 12 universities in Guangzhou.

During lunch on December 1, six girls dressed in Christmas costumes gave out leaflets in front of the canteen at Jinan University. The leaflet described the two men and the type of wife they are looking for.

One of the men, Jack, is 27. He graduated from university in Britain and now runs the Guangzhou branch of his father's business.

Jack said he paid 80,000 yuan (HK$91,000) to the marriage agency as a basic service charge. But he declined to reveal the total cost.

'I turned to the agency because my social circle is too narrow, and I want to find my future wife in a big city,' he said.
