Pollution peaks on Christmas Day
Roadside air pollution has been high over the past week, hitting severe levels for about half the time. The poor air quality was also coupled with fog and low visibility, causing five boat collisions within and outside Hong Kong waters on Friday. The pollution in Mong Kok was the worst and very high for four of the days between December 20 and 25, with an air pollution index reading at or more than 100. The highest index reading was in Causeway Bay, reaching 147 at 6pm on Friday. The pollution is forecast to decrease as the mercury drops today.
