A self-proclaimed Taoist Mao Shan master was found guilty yesterday of tricking a teenage model into having sex with him nine times as part of so-called rituals to boost her luck in her career.
The judgment on truck driver Au Yeung Kwok-fu, 55, came five days later than scheduled because he suddenly fell ill while the judge was delivering his verdict at a hearing last Wednesday and was admitted to hospital.
District Court Judge Stanley Chan Kwong-chi noted the significance of what happened at the hearing last week.
'The original verdict date was the second anniversary of the day on which the model had her last ritual. Some people may say it is foolish to be so superstitious, but others say someone has been taken advantage of.'
Chan also quoted part of a Zen saying used by defence counsel Christopher Wong in his written submission, which meant: if one cannot let go of the pain in one's heart, one will be at an impasse in life. But if one opens one's heart, there are boundless opportunities.
'But this didn't apply in this case, as this saying describes how a person changes his views ... grasping his fate based on one's behaviour and to advance bravely.'
