So, you think you can dance? That's not just another television show, it's what the Hong Kong Youth Arts Foundation is asking local teenagers. One of the group's newest projects is for the Jockey Club. The foundation has been recruited to create a dance performance to help kick off the club's three-year Point to Point Site Specific Art Project, which aims to develop in young people a greater sense of community through art. In the performing arts component, dancers between the ages of 10 and 25 are being sought. In particular, the foundation wants to find those eager to improve their improvisational techniques and creativity, as these aspects will carry the most weight at the auditions. Rehearsals begin in February, with the performances taking place in late April and early May. Interested parties can register online at www.hkyaf.com (under 'Seeking Teenage Dancers'). The deadline for applications is this Friday and auditions will be held on January 16. If your moves are more rudimentary, the foundation also has a free salsa workshop for those aged 15 to 25 on January 22. A former European amateur salsa champion will provide instruction in such basics as rhythm and timing, as well as fancier footwork and cool tricks. Places are limited and are on a first-come-first-served basis. E-mail kerryL@hkyaf.com .
