The two-year part-time programme caters for those in the teaching profession or those who wish to teach English at a tertiary level. It consists of four core modules, three elective modules, an applied research project and a dissertation over two academic years, and involves a minimum of 300 hours of prescribed work. Core module subjects include language systems and context, research methods and research design while the nine elective modules include phonology, vocabulary teaching and learning, and advances in writing pedagogy. Students also work on an applied research project which sees them formulating an investigative question, developing data collection instruments, collecting data, analysing the data and drawing conclusions. This project provides the preparatory work for their dissertation work in the second year of the course. Applications for the upcoming academic year will close on February 22, 2010. The entry requirement is a bachelors degree from any university or comparable institution or another qualification of equivalent standard. The annual fee (2010-11) is provisionally set at HK$41,500.
