More than 200 of the city's artists are gathering at an annual art fair and opening their doors to visitors who want to learn more about the creative process.

The Fo Tan Artists Open Studios is marking its 10th anniversary this year with a record 224 artists from 59 studios exhibiting a variety of art forms.

The event, which is now being held at warehouse-turned studios in Fo Tan, aims to encourage exchange between artists, students and the public.

With so many businesses having moved to the mainland, the industrial area has become a low-rent attraction for artists looking for loft spaces.

Free guided tours through a range of art forms - including familiars such as painting, sculpture, ceramics, printmaking and photography, as well as newer media such as installation art, video and mixed media - are available. There will also be seminars.

The event opened Saturday and will continue this weekend at Wah Luen Industrial Building, 15 to 21 Wong Chuk Yeung Street, Fo Tan. Call 8110 1122 for more information.
