In the past year, 139 prisoners at Hong Kong's top security prison in Stanley have sat public exams, with many achieving good results. Tackling academic tests including City & Guilds of London Institute Examinations, LCCI International Qualifications Examinations, and the Hong Kong Certificate of Education Examination, 63 inmates received certificates. They scored a total of 36 distinctions and credits, and 69 passes. In one particularly encouraging case, an inmate was awarded a Bachelor's degree in Business Administration (Chinese) by the Open University. Stanley Prison holds up to 1,544 adult male prisoners who have been convicted of serious crimes.
