Take drug abuse more seriously

The Hong Kong government does not seem to have a clear policy in its campaign against drugs.

Chief Executive Donald Tsang Yam-kuen's policy address late last year only discussed issues such as relocating the Christian Zheng Sheng College drug rehabilitation centre so that more young drug addicts can be treated. It did not offer ways to avoid the increase of drug abusers. It's as if the government could only think about how to put out fires, not ways to stop people setting them.

Furthermore, the policy address only discussed teenage drug abuse. Although youth drug abuse is a serious problem and action needs to be taken, there are many adult addicts.

These addicts need community and government support to return to society, get back on the right track and turn a new leaf.

In short, not enough is being done to help drug users.
