The abuse of the pseudo (lang-mo) models continues. Well, at least in a new local movie in the works. An opening ritual was performed Tuesday afternoon at Johnnie To Kei-fung's Kwun Tong office for the new film, Retribution - which he is producing and Law Wing-cheong is directing - complete with Buddhist prayers, joss sticks and a roast pig. But in the social drama, model turned actress Janice Man Wing-shan receives a far less civil reception from her movie father, Anthony Wong Chau-sang. In one of the first scenes they've filmed, Man, as his rebellious, drug-addicted daughter is slapped hard in the face by an angry Wong. 'In the end, I was slapped eight times,' Man recalls, pointing at the light bruises still on her face. 'I have never been slapped, not even by my parents. After my first take, I really wanted to cry, and it really did hurt.' However, the newcomer sucked it up and embraced the character, even practising the painful scene by hitting herself in front of a bathroom mirror. 'I just wanted to feel how painful it would be, but I didn't dare tell my own parents about the scene, because I think they would be very upset,' she says. The film also stars Maggie Cheung Ho-yee, Richie Jen Hsien-chi, Candy Lo Hau-yam and musician Jun Kung, who practised his own kind of method acting by being arrested for alleged assault in Macau in an incident earlier this month. Also in the movie is Wong's own 13-year-old son.
