Hon Hai Precision Industry, the world's leading electronic parts manufacturer, filed an injunction with the High Court to ban three Hong Kong companies from using the names of Honhai and Foxconn as their company or domain name. The defendants - Honhai Enterprise (HK) Co, Honhai Enterprise (HK) Limited and Foxconn International Group Co, Limited - were accused of infringing on the goodwill of the Taiwanese company, a writ of summons from the High Court on Friday said. Foxconn is Hon Hai's trade name. Hon Hai said the defendants meant to deceive and confuse the public in Hong Kong and elsewhere into thinking that they were associated with the Taiwanese group. It said it was not associated with the three firms. The Taipei-based company also said it reserved the right to seek compensation for the loss and damage resulting from the three firms' alleged misconduct. It did not specify any amount to be claimed. Lam Wing-Kwan is the proprietor of Honhai Enterprise (HK) Co and the sole shareholder of Honhai Enterprise (HK) Limited.
