Trainer Alex Wong Yu-on and jockey Weichong Marwing's persistence paid off when the pair combined to land a narrow win with Star Legend in the Hok Yuen Handicap (1,200m). Marwing landed the first of a double on the horse, who 'likes to stop once he reaches the front', according to the trainer. 'He is a difficult horse to train because whenever he hits the front he likes to stop and tends to switch off,' Wong said. 'But Weichong knows this horse and I have to give a lot of credit for the win to his ride.' Marwing found a handy spot in the run and drove him right to the line to hold off the fast finishing Sounds Excellent to win by a short head. 'I think this horse's rating is low enough now that he might be able to bounce back up again to the rating he had when he was first brought here,' Wong said. Star Legend arrived with a rating of 65, but had dropped to 46 before yesterday's win.
