Jockey Zac Purton used his initiative to guide Quantum Express from a wide gate to a soft lead, and then drove him to a gallant victory in the Po Loi Handicap (1,600m). He followed trainer Francis Lui Kin-wai's instructions perfectly and was rewarded when the Faltaat gelding kicked clear in the straight and held off the late challenge of fast finishing Derek Cruz debutant Wo Ai Ninn. 'I told Zac to let the horse go smoothly and if there was no pace on, to just go to the lead,' Lui said. 'I think he can stay, so a race over 1,800 metres or further may not be out of the question for this horse.' Purton was chuffed to have been allowed to dictate the terms of the race and also feels Quantum Express can win over a longer distance. 'He ground it out really well today, and although he is only one paced, he should be able to get further again in time. Once he gets a bit stronger he will make a nice horse,' he said.
