CityU to set up biofuel research centre with UK counterpart City University is setting up the city's first biofuel research centre to seek ways to turn food waste into cleaner renewable energy. The joint venture with the UK's Edinburgh Napier University will study a process similar to wine-making. The city produces 3,000 tonnes of kitchen waste every day, CityU said. Professor Johnny Chan Chung-leung, dean of its School of Energy and Environment, said the success of the technology will ease demand on landfills and improve air quality. Approval needed for slope plan The Buildings Department has asked Canossa Hospital not to spray concrete on a slope at its entrance without approval.
