MID-table Happy Valley ended their Hong Kong First Division campaign on a mixed note when they held Sing Tao to a goalless draw at Mongkok Stadium last night. Happy Valley have completed 18 games on 24 points and are likely to finish in fifth place with sixth-placed Kitchee, who are two points behind, taking on Sing Tao on May 12 in their last league game. Sing Tao have three games left in their league campaign and are looking for the runners-up position behind recently-crowned champions Eastern. The Tigers are presently on 27 points, six points behind Instant-Dict who have played a game more. There was little action to write home about in a drab affair with Sing Tao and Happy Valley having few chances to settle the matter. Happy Valley, who are planning to go big time next season with the club promising to pump in $10 million to enhance their chances of winning at least one major trophy, enjoyed most of the possession in the first half. But Sing Tao stepped up a gear as Happy Valley were content on sitting back to soak up the pressure. There were one or two noteworthy goal-scoring opportunities in the first half for Happy Valley, Simon Collins coming closest in the 22nd minute. Collins drilled in a powerful shot which Sing Tao reserve goalkeeper Cheng Wing-keung palmed away. Happy Valley probably had their best chance of breaking the deadlock two minutes before the interval when Wei Kexing broke down the centre and had his close range shot blocked by Cheng. Cheng, who replaced injured Harvey Lim, had an excellent game. He pulled off a string of saves and was best in the 86th minute when he turned away Wai Kwan-lung's snap shot. In the end, both sides were content on sharing the spoils with a point each.
