A TOTAL of 27 secondary schools are expected to take part in the annual Academic Quiz produced by RTHK and jointly organised by Lions Clubs International 303 of Hong Kong and Macau.
Speaking about the competition which kicked off with its first round on Wednesday, programme executive producer Helen Wong said the event was aimed at enriching students' general knowledge of academic subjects, usage of languages, news and public affairs.
Topics such as population distribution, electoral seats and local customs, could help promote their understanding of current affairs and boost their interest in civic education as well as extra-curricular activities, she added.
The Academic Quiz is being hosted by Mr Josiah Lau.
The schools will be competing for the championship, the first and second runners-up places as well as the RTHK Cup in the competition, the finals of which will be held in July.
The first preliminary round saw Diocesan Girls' School, Bishop Hall Jubilee School and Immaculate Heart of Mary College competing vigorously for a place in the semi-finals.
