Actor Francis Ng Chun-yu will face trial over allegations that he hit a man in a Kowloon City bread and dessert shop after his wife got into an argument.
Ng, 48,  pleaded not guilty in Kowloon City Court yesterday to one count of wounding Ming Chi-hong at the Ceres Boulangerie et Patisserie on New Year's Day. 
Ng, who lives in Sai Kung, allegedly hit Ming's head and left him with an  injury that required  stitches.
The court heard that Ng's wife had got into an argument with Ming and his wife at the store in Fuk Lo Tsun Road.  
The actor will face trial on April 1.
The prosecution will call six witnesses, senior prosecutor Cora Lo Kai-lai  said. 
A medical report on the alleged victim will also be submitted.
Lo said that on the day of the offence, Ng's wife had gone into the shop, where Ming and his wife were and then  got into an argument with them.  Ng rushed into the store, pushed Ming and hit him in the head. The police arrived later.  
Ming suffered pain and a scratch to his head, and required two stitches to his left ear as a result of the attack, Lo said. A camera in the store recorded the incident,  she said. 
Osmond Lam,  representing Ng, said the camera did not capture the alleged assault adding that Ming's wife had used profanities when speaking to Ng's wife in the store.
Magistrate Andrew Ma Hon-cheung  continued Ng's bail, but raised the amount from HK$2,000 to HK$5,000.
Ng was mobbed by dozens of reporters and cameramen  as he left the court. At one point, he was cornered outside the entrance and was unable to leave. 
The actor, clad in a tailored shirt, sweater, brown corduroy jacket and tan corduroy trousers, spoke calmly and clearly as he entered his plea to the wounding charge.
