Third woman suffers stillbirth after having swine flu vaccination
The Centre for Health Protection is investigating another stillbirth involving a 28-year-old woman who received the swine flu vaccination seven weeks ago.
It is the third reported stillbirth since the vaccination programme was launched in December.
The centre concluded that the previous two cases - involving women aged 33 and 37, one with a chronic illness and the other diabetes - were unlikely to have been caused by the swine flu jab.
The woman in the latest case was admitted to Tuen Mun Hospital yesterday with vaginal spotting. Doctors were unable to detect a fetal heartbeat during examination and later confirmed it had died.
The centre said the woman, who was 39 weeks' pregnant, had a history of good health. She received the human swine flu vaccination at a health centre on December 21.
She is in stable condition at the hospital. A centre spokesman said investigations for common causes of stillbirth - including infection, and genetic and metabolic disorders - were being carried out.
