Police in Hebei province have detained a suspect in the murder of a family of six on Sunday night.
The bodies of the six victims - including two young children - were found at a rented home in Gaoyang town, the administrative seat of Gaoyang county, in the early hours of Monday.
The suspect - 42-year-old Chen Guangjun of Lanxi county, Heilongjiang province - turned himself in to authorities, Xinhua said. He was believed to be a relative of the victims, who were also from Lanxi.
According to the report, the victims arrived in Gaoyang on Friday to look for work and rented the three-bedroom home. Police say Chen arrived the next day.
Gaoyang police told Xinhua the case was still under investigation.
Sunday's case follows several other recent family tragedies in the region.
