UP above the horizon the Peninsula is making a sweeping statement with its new tower. But down below at pavement level it appears to be suffering something of an identity crisis. It all stems from the fact that the MTR in its wisdom has decided to remove the Peninsula signage from the relevant Tsim Sha Tsui exit because, the hotel has been informed, more important landmarks have emerged in the area since the Pen has been undergoing a major facelift. To add insult to injury, the nearby YMCA doesn't appear to have met a similar fate at the hands of the MTR's signage committee. Still, the folks at the Peninsula can console themselves in the knowledge that while anyone surfacing for fresh air from the MTR would probably seek refuge at the YMCA, those heading for the sanctuary of the Pen would almost certainly be arriving at its marble portals by Rolls-Royce.
