Seeing how many people have been struggling in the volatile market recently, I can't help but wonder: wouldn't they be better off investing in wristwatches? I have read time and time again about watch collectors who sold their timepieces and made a profit.
What better investment than something that also literally makes you look good?
This exciting notion led me to further research online, and on to the conclusion: unless I have millions of dollars to hunt down limited-edition watches, a lucrative career in watch collecting would be an unlikely prospect.
For now, it seems I'd be better off collecting watches for pure interest's sake. At least, unlike clothes, mechanical timepieces of good quality and reputed brands, if well kept, are certainly resaleable.
My first precious watch might be a classic steel Roadster de Cartier (above right), which, at HK$34,600, is within my reach. I love stainless steel watches as they are very flexible accessories and you can almost never go wrong with them.
You can wear this Roadster to the office, at the weekend with a Hilfiger shirt or even to an evening function and it just effortlessly carries you through.
