33 held at underground casino
Anti-triad officers arrested 33 people and seized betting chips with a face value of HK$500,000 in a raid yesterday on a flat in Shau Kei Wan. Police broke through the front door of the flat in Shau Kei Wan Road at about 12.30am. Fifteen men and 11 women were playing baccarat. Seven other men acting as lookouts were also arrested.
Bid to rob prostitute ends in jail
An export company manager was jailed for 61/2 years in the District Court for trying to rob a prostitute. Tsang Sui-cheung, 28, pulled out a knife after taking the woman to a room at the Regal Kowloon Hotel in Tsim Sha Tsui on April 11. He pleaded guilty to attempted robbery.
Burglar critical after flat fall
A suspected burglar was fighting for his life in hospital after falling while trying to prise open the window of a flat in Mong Kok. The man, 37, was found with head and leg injuries in an alley behind Ngai Hing Mansion in Pak Po Street at 4.51am.
