A Heung Yee Kuk-organised pun choi (big bowl feast) banquet attended by more than 14,000 people last year has won a place in the Guinness World Records for the largest such gathering, the Kuk said yesterday. Last month, Guinness World Records sent Kuk chairman Lau Wong-fat a certificate confirming the banquet - in which 14,459 guests dined at about 1,600 tables - had clinched the record, the Kuk said. The March 28 banquet in Yuen Long Stadium was held to celebrate Lau's appointment to the Executive Council. The Kuk later applied to Guinness World Records. Lau said he was excited about the record. 'It was such a large banquet, involving over 10,000 people. It expressed the spirit of unity,' he said. The Kuk organised the banquet with 27 rural committees. Hong Kong won Guinness records for the largest finger-painting and wing chun displays in November and loudest scream by a crowd indoors in September.
