1/F Hullett House, 2 Canton Road, Tsim Sha Tsui Tel: 3988 0220 Open: Monday-Saturday noon-2.30pm (last order), 7pm-10.30pm (last order)
Cuisine: European with British accents
Price: About HK$700 without drinks and before adding the service charge.
Ambience: The airy, high-ceilinged room in the former Marine Police Headquarters has dark wooden panelling, polished wood beams and elaborate crystal chandeliers. Service is helpful and discreet.
Pros: The menu is daring, offering unconventional ingredients and flavour pairings. Not everyone will like it, though - while I had a difficult time making up my mind because everything sounded so tempting, my guest had the opposite reaction and found only a few dishes that he wanted to try. We knew we were in for a good meal with the taste of the first amuse bouche; at the bottom of the cup of chestnut soup with black truffles was the unexpected flavour of mango puree. Several of the dishes can be ordered as a degustation portion.
Cons: The signage leading the way to the restaurant should be improved.
