Hong Kong fell to Macau 74-82 in the final game of the Hong Kong Schools Interport Basketball Championships to finish second in the tournament. The competition ended last Saturday at the Tsing Yi Sports Centre. The event featured top secondary school basketball players from Fujian, Guangdong, Macau and Hong Kong.

In the first two games against the provinces, Hong Kong faced little competition. They crushed Fujian 112-63 and dominated Guangdong 111-63. Hong Kong coach Chu Ka-hun said his players were more experienced and skilful than those from Guangdong and Fujian, so they had an easy time.

'We used all 12 players on our team to keep them fresh. This is important as we had to play two games on the final day of the competition,' he said. 'The two easy wins against Fujian and Guangdong allowed our key players to rest early and conserve energy for the final game against Macau.'

That final game against Macau proved tough, however. Hong Kong started well, making their shots and doing a great job getting offensive rebounds. They led 37-33 at half-time.

The third quarter was a wild one. Macau came out roaring at the beginning, eventually building an 11-point lead.

In the final two minutes of the quarter, Hong Kong gave Macau a taste of their own medicine.
