Kinsey's story has a similar structure to two classic tales.
In both Alice's Adventures in Wonderland and The Wizard of Oz, the heroine takes a trip to a bizarre world. Alice wakes from her sleep at the end of her visit to Wonderland, and in The Wizard of Oz, Dorothy's adventure happens after she has had a bang on her head.
In my alternative version of The Wish Coupon, I introduce Mary as someone who is lonely and unwell. This - in a very, very simple way - sets up her desire to meet a handsome prince, and possibly explains her incredible 'dream'.
It also creates a way to transport the 'prince' from her day of wishes into the real world.
Also, without making the story too long, I've tried to give the Wish Coupon a little personality of its own, adding the extra rules to the pink book, and waiting until the end to make Mary read the rest of the third instruction.
