Firefighters were called in yesterday to free a loan shark suspect after police could not unlock the handcuffs they had used on him. It was the second case in three days of malfunctioning handcuffs, but a police union believes it is just a coincidence. A police spokeswoman said the rescuers cut the faulty cuffs from the man's wrist without hurting him. He was released on bail without charge and has to report back to police next month. On Saturday morning, firemen cut faulty cuffs off the right wrist of a suspected thief being held at Waterfront police station in Sheung Wan. He was also unhurt.
