Hong Kong will always hold a special place in the affections of Benjamin Ayimba and his Kenya team, and the coach is hoping they can build on their performance last year to reach their first Hong Kong Sevens final.

The Kenyans, who have become sentimental favourites since their first appearance at the Sevens in 2003, lost to eventual champions Fiji in the last four of the competition 12 months ago. Now Ayimba wants his team to move on and possibly challenge for the title.

'We hope we can do the same or even go one better,' he said. 'We hope the crowd will be there for us, they always have been.

'Last year wasn't just a positive in Hong Kong but also in the IRB Series because the points we got gave us a very good position for going into the rest of the series. It did a lot [towards] getting us into sixth position.

'It definitely has put us under pressure, but we relish that pressure and we want to work with it.'

The Kenyans had little difficulty kicking off this year's campaign, emerging relatively unscathed from their match against Korea with a 51-7 win. Humphrey Kayange and Collins Injera scored two tries each, but despite a total of nine tries, the Kenyans managed only three conversions.
