Food labelling law a good move
I am writing to express my opinion on the food labelling law which will be enacted in July. I think this is a wise move.
Under the proposed regulations, packaged food will carry nutrition labels declaring the total energy and seven core nutrients of a product. Food items claiming to be 'low-fat' or 'low-sugar' will have to comply with the standards.
At least 2,000 products have already disappeared from the shelves. It is expected that up to 3,000 more products will be removed before the law comes into force.
Some people may be concerned about price increases because companies will have to spend extra money to test their products, so will put up prices to cover the cost.
But there are many advantages. Customers will be more confident about what they buy and be more aware of the healthy food choices they can make.
