Fung shui masters have certain responsibilities that must be upheld when dealing with clients. First, a master needs to answer accurately and in detail any questions that may arise regarding the fung shui of the residential or commercial property he is assessing. It is also important for him to follow up on the results of the consul- tation, which means he needs to be available to answer any further questions the client may have. Fung shui experts should not make sweeping statements on the internet or by phone without having seen the property in question. A master would be grossly negligent and cause needless worry if, by simply looking at the direction of the property from the plans, he were to say that the head of a household may develop a terminal illness. A master should not encourage a client to buy specific fung shui symbols or items from him as there is a conflict of interest. What the master is offering is his counsel, not consumer products. A responsible and credible consultant will also refrain from offering fung shui remedies that strain credulity, such as the burning of real banknotes on a daily basis or the placing of personally energised plaster-of-Paris statues of deities in rooms. Feel free to question such an individual about their qualifications and experience.
