Prebble closer to glory with Whyte left kicking his heels
Jockey Brett Prebble's stocks in the premiership were boosted significantly after the leading rider booted home a double while his main rival, Douglas Whyte, was outed for a further two meetings on a charge of careless riding.
Prebble's double may prove crucial in his attempt to wrestle the jockeys' premiership away from perennial champion Whyte, whose winning run came to a grinding halt at last night's meeting.
Whyte was suspended for a further two meetings for his ride on Moon Chaser in the final race - meaning he will miss the first four meetings after the Audemar Piguet Queen Elizabeth II Cup on April 25.
Prebble is also due to be on the sidelines for three meetings this month after being suspended for his winning ride aboard Cristal Lily in the Group One Golden Slipper in Australia last Saturday - but made the most of his opportunities last night.
'I was lucky to pick up the ride on Packing Power as Andy Suborics had already taken the ride on Royal Doctor in the race,' Prebble said.
'Caspar [Fownes] had him trained to the minute and he really appreciated the cut in the ground after that little bit of rain. He's not mentally there yet, so once he learns to relax he will take big steps forward.'
