Burglary bid leads to prison

A MAN who has notched up 16 convictions in the past 30 years was jailed for nine months yesterday for attempted burglary and theft.

Yip Kim-kwok, 59, had pleaded guilty before Magistrate Fergal Sweeney.

Mr Sweeney noted that Yip had been a professional burglar since he was 16.

Eastern Court heard Yip was arrested after being seen leaving the back of a Wan Chai restaurant on April 2 and had said under caution he entered the restaurant, but had not stolen anything.

Yip admitted earlier stealing two crowbars, a metal hook and a screwdriver from a Johnston Road stall.

Counsel, R. P. Sabaratnam, said Yip had tried to get money for his ill mother.
