We have yet to find a salt we like more than Maldon (it has the perfect 'crunch') but we can't deny the attractiveness of Murray River salt, which get its pale pink colour from natural minerals. To make the most of its look and soft crunch, sprinkle it over a dish just before serving, so the flakes don't dissolve. It sells for HK$25.90 for 50 grams or HK$39.90 for 150 grams at Great, Pacific Place, Admiralty, tel: 2918 9986.

We went through sour-cherry-juice withdrawal after a trip last year to Istanbul, Turkey, where we found the tart, refreshing beverage on sale just about everywhere. Australian company Found Organic makes its juice using '39 sour cherries', and without preservatives or added sugar. It costs HK$28 for a 250ml bottle at City'super, IFC Mall, Central, tel: 2234 7128.

The zaru tofu made at the Causeway Bay branch of City'super (Times Square, tel: 2506 2888) is so good we've seen it being passed off as home-made at more than one Japanese restaurant. Beautifully textured and subtly flavoured, it's sold in a zaru (basket) with a small packet of sauce to drizzle over the top; it's also delicious lightly sprinkled with green tea-flavoured salt. It sells for HK$20.
