Extortionist gets 18 months for bid to frame schoolboy

A man who attempted to extort HK$28,000 from a student he tried to frame for molesting a woman on a train was jailed yesterday for 18 months. Danny Luk Chi-tong, 46, pleaded guilty to two counts of blackmail and a count each of common assault. Luk filmed a 14-year-old pupil, in school uniform, standing near a woman on an MTR train on January 4 and later used the video to extort money from the boy and his mother. He also slapped the student in the face. He was caught red-handed when he was witnessed taking the money from the boy's mother in a coffee shop. Judge Eddie Yip Chor-man sentenced Luk in the District Court.

Suspected triad members attacked outside bar

Three knife-wielding assailants escaped in a car after attacking two suspected triad members aged 28 and 29 at the junction of Jordan Road and Temple Street, Yau Ma Tei, after they left a bar at about 6.30am. The victims, suspected to be 14K triad members, were treated for knife wounds to their arms and legs at Queen Elizabeth Hospital. Police believe the attack was triggered by a dispute between the victims and a group of suspected Sun Yee On triad members over a woman in the bar.

Worker jailed for chopper attack on father and son

A delivery worker who attacked a businessman and his son with a chopper was jailed for two years and eight months. Li Man-kin, 35, had pleaded guilty in the District Court to two counts of wounding with intent. He told police he had mistaken the father for a man with whom he had argued while using a lift. Judge Poon Siu-tung described Li's act as intolerable.
