Cemetery workers on trial
Three cemetery workers went on trial yesterday in Kwun Tong Court over allegations they took bribes to arrange exhumations on 'lucky days'. The Independent Commission Against Corruption last December charged Tseung Kwan O Permanent Chinese Cemetery assistant supervisors Hung Yee-lee, 56, and Leung Chi-wing, 52, and former acting supervisor Ho Shu-chin, 37, with 11 counts of accepting an advantage. The trial continues today.
TVB pair face fraud charges
A former assistant manager at TVB Pay Vision was charged with deceiving the company between 2005 and 2008 into awarding contracts worth more than HK$800,000 to three companies he is suspected of controlling, the ICAC said. Yuen Chi-wai, 33, and co-defendant Li Hiu-ting, 27, a company receptionist and Yuen's girlfriend, face three counts of fraud. They will appear in Kwun Tong Court tomorrow.
Loan scheme extended
A special government loan scheme will be extended until the end of this year, giving businesses more time to rebuild their financial situation amid the global economic downturn. The HK$100 million Special Loan Guarantee Scheme, established in December 2008 to help struggling companies cope, was supposed to end by the middle of this year.
