Seasonal flu vaccination scheme to end next week Seasonal flu vaccinations under the government vaccination programme, the elderly vaccination subsidy scheme and the childhood influenza vaccination subsidy scheme would end on April 30, a spokesman for the Department of Health said. He said surveillance by the Centre for Health Protection showed a decreasing trend in seasonal flu activity, which signalled its traditional peak season had passed. The programme was started on October 19 and as at Monday, a total of 505,706 doses of seasonal flu vaccines had been administered. Guangdong takes steps to ensure water supply to Hong Kong Guangdong has taken measures to regulate the flow of the Dongjiang, or East River, to ensure supply for Hong Kong, the Water Supplies Department said yesterday. After a visit to Guangdong, water officials said the province had implemented integrated flow enhancement plans for three major reservoirs to regulate the flow and water quality of the Dongjiang from where the city imports about 80 per cent of its drinking water. The reservoirs currently have a total of 5.5 billion cubic metres of water. Six activists in pre-trial review over unlawful assembly charge Six pro-democracy activists appeared in Eastern Court yesterday for pre-trial review over a charge of taking part in an unlawful assembly on Christmas Day. The defendants were Leung Kwok-wah, 50, Richard Tsoi Yiu-cheong, 42, former legislator 'Long Hair' Leung Kwok-hung, 53, Li Yiu-kee, 23, lawmaker Lee Cheuk-yan, 53 and Koo Sze-yiu, 63, of the April 5th Action Group. A five-day trial begins on July 19. Tsoi is the vice-chairman of the Hong Kong Alliance in Support of Patriotic Democractic Movements in China. The six pleaded not guilty to the charge earlier. Lee was absent when the group was first called up yesterday. He later showed up and apologised to Acting Principal Magistrate Bina Chainrai for getting the case confused with summons relating to Citizens' Radio, which his lawyer is to attend on his behalf.
