THE teenage mistress of a two-timing policeman accused of murdering his common-law wife said yesterday she took drastic measures to break up the relationship in the weeks before the killing.

Jealous Siu Wing-yan, 19, slashed her wrists four times after discovering Chong Yan-yuk, 30, was about to marry Maggie Leung Mei-kee, 25, the High Court heard.

Chong suffocated Leung on June 19 last year after confessing he was having an affair - just three days before they were due to register their marriage. He admits manslaughter but denies murder.

Ms Siu, a student nurse, said she had first learned about Leung in April after stumbling on photographs of a wedding banquet held five months previously.

She told the jury how she had cut her wrist with a needle in the toilet at her lover's flat where Chong had discovered her some time later covered in blood.

Ms Siu said she believed if she hurt herself he would also be hurt. She said she had slashed her wrist again just hours later.

On another occasion she had cut her wrists twice after getting drunk. Asked why, she simply replied: ''I was unhappy.'' Ms Siu told the court how she had put pressure on Chong to choose between her and Leung and had even threatened to turn up at the wedding ceremony on June 22 to embarrass him.
