Some fung shui myths about placing objects on your desk have, unfortunately, become ingrained into the psyche of some people.
For instance, if there is a pillar located next to you, placing a plant or bamboo between yourself and the pillar will absorb the negative energy.
This practice is questionable, especially when you can relocate your desk or move to one that is not in the direct line of a pillar. Natural plants are used to stimulate academic success or romance, so ensure that if you have plants on your desk and are happily married, or in a committed relationship, do not place plants in the romance sector, which this year faces north.
Placing Buddha statues or Chinese gods, or symbols of your spiritual beliefs - photos of gurus or religious leaders - on your desk are more for your personal motivation, and not related to fung shui.
Crystal statues or lamps will not enhance your career, so be wary of practitioners who try to sell you these.
There is also no need to place a Ba Gua mirror which has the 'Former Heaven Sequence of the Trigrams' embossed on it on your desk.
