MACAU has posted a merchandise trade deficit of 387 million patacas for the first two months of this year, down 26.4 per cent on the same period last year.
The Macau Government's Statistics and Census Department said yesterday the Portuguese enclave's export value in January and February grew an impressive 10.6 per cent to 1.7 billion patacas, compared with the same period last year.
The import value edged up one per cent to two billion patacas.
In February, Macau's exports went down 13.8 per cent from a year ago and imports tumbled 33.9 per cent, resulting in a foreign trade ratio of 80.8 per cent.
Textiles and garment exports, which shared 67.4 per cent of the total export value, increased in nominal terms by 5.8 per cent.
Non-textile products grew 21.9 per cent.
