The Emerson String Quartet is more than just a well-established ensemble. It's a brand.
Formed in 1976 and named after the American poet Ralph Waldo Emerson, 'America's greatest quartet' - in the words of Time magazine - stand alone as a uniquely accomplished stringed foursome with unrivaled achievements.
Winners of nine Grammys - including two for Best Classical Album - three Gramophone Awards and the prestigious Avery Fisher Prize, a first for a chamber ensemble, the New York-based quartet have produced more than 30 critically acclaimed recordings.
Over the past three decades, the group has ceaselessly toured the world. Their present season alone comprises more than 90 engagements in such cultural capitals as Boston, Vancouver, London, Prague and Edinburgh, with multiple concert stops en route in Spain, Germany, Italy, Switzerland, Austria and France.
This year, Emerson will also embark on a rare tour of Asia, giving recitals in Seoul, Tokyo, Taipei and Hong Kong.
Alternating in the first chair position are violinists Eugene Drucker and Philip Setzer. They will be joined by violist Lawrence Dutton and cellist David Finckel.
